Finger Lickin' Good aka Matthew Hutchinson who made it all the way to the
USAG National Championship in Los Angeles last year.
How did you choose your air name and what makes you so "Finger Lickin' Good"?
My cousin, from NY, actually gave me the name. I texted him one day asking what a good stage name would be, and that was the first response he gave. I have my own theme song by the Beastie Boys. That's why I'm "Finger Lickin' Good."
What/who inspired you to compete in air guitar competitions and what if any are your long-term goals in the art/sport?
I was actually inspired by writing a paper about air guitar in my freshman year guitar studies class. I watched the documentary "Air Guitar Nation" and read Bjorn's book*, and was hooked. I never looked back from there. My long term goals, in the field of air guitar, are sadly over for now. I have officially decided to retire at the ripe age of 24. Last summer was a dream come true, and I feel it is only right to end on an amazing memory.
Is there anything surprising that you have discovered about yourself in regards to air guitar?
When it comes down to it, I can be a beast on stage, and not a timid, shy freak like I am in real life. But in all seriousness, air guitar has given me a sense of confidence that I've never really discovered before.
Do you have any advice to anyone who is thinking about competing, if so what would it be?
I would say...Let it all go and have the time of your life. Air guitar is all about having fun, and rocking your hardest. Don't let your inner voice hold you back. Become the person from your wildest dreams.
If you had only one word to describe your experience competing at the US Air Guitar National Competition in Los Angeles at The House Of Blues last summer, what would that word be?
*"Bjorn's book" is in reference to Bjorn Turoque aka Dan Crane's book who was one of the main subjects in the documentary "Air Guitar Nation. The book is called " To Air Is Human" and is available for purchase on Amazon.com
