What To Expect When you're expecting... Okay, you just don't know what to expect so here is a little example of what you may see. Thank you brooklyn!
Are you single? Pick-up lines that just might work at an air guitar competition june 29th at dante's
(We stole this from The Oregonian Edge column)
Now that we know the franchise is going to strike back – in the form of a new trilogy – we thought we'd run our favorite "Star Wars" pickup lines. You know, for all you single fans looking for that special someone who heats up your lightsaber or thaws out your carbonite. Use wisely... and may the Force be with you.
The good people in Iowa woke up to the Minneapolis 2012 Champion Flying Finn melting their faces off the other day, why should they have all of the fun. Check this out.
For those of you who SAY "I would love TO COMPETE BUT I JUST DON't Know how to air guitar" This one is for you.
Hey guys, Charles Muir a.k.a. "Mr. Picante" here, Kara Picante's husband. I'd like to ask you all a wee favor. As you (or most of you) know, Kara is hosting this year's qualifier in Portland. You probably also know it's going to have a fresh look and feel to it, as USAG has stepped back and asked local air artistes to host their own qualifiers. It may end up that the June 29 show at Dante's will be the only one in the Northwest before the semifinals. Regardless, I'm hoping you'll all help "Team Picante" promote the Portland show. For one, we're sending TWO people to compete alongside last year's finalists (including the reigning Northwest champs) to represent the city of weird! First place winner gets $400 and second place gets $300 towards their trip to the semi-finals in San Francisco on August 3rd. This is more than what was offered at previous Portland qualifiers...and at a lower entry fee to boot. It's "Team Picante's" goal to create a truly AWESOME experience for its competitors. So if you're on the fence about entering, or plan to but haven't entered yet, what are you waiting for? Plus all the proceeds go toward the Portland SUN arts program for kids, so you're getting killer prizes and a good cause all in one package. Even admission for the fans will be more affordable this year. In short, we're hoping to pack Dante's on June 29 for a night of hellacious entertainment and fundraising. So all I ask, pretty please with an air bow on top, is for you social media users to "like" the www.usairguitarpdx.com website and occasionally like and even share some of the posts. That's it. A push of a button. Believe me, it makes a difference. If you're interested, we have postcards you can hand out, or you can just tell people about it. People can even donate on the website if they can't make it. It promotes a.g., it promotes you, the competitors, and it promotes our city and region. We're NOT the "lame hipsters" that are always made fun of. Team Picante (all right, mostly Kara and Sherry, her friend and a non-competitive a.g. devotee) is working too hard to put on an event that promises killer entertainment and maybe even a few surprises. It would be a huuuuuuge help if you do whatever you can to make people aware of it. The event gets the lamest play in the papers every year, but maybe together we can change that this year. And with that I sign off my plea with that familiar catchphrase, "Let’s melt some faces!" I hope to see you June 29--and thanks for letting me blow.
Yours, Mr. P, a.k.a. Charles
I can potentially understand walking into an air guitar contest in a grumpy mood and not comprehending what you are seeing and possibly even getting angry about it but these pictures really capture the quirkiness, dorkiness & beauty that is the sport/art. Don't pretend you are not secretly planning your outfit right now!
Kansas City, Boston & Chicago all had qualifiers last week (unfortunately I was unable to upload any Boston pictures but more can be seen at www.usairguitar.com).
