Before the World Air Guitar Championship there was our National USAG Championship held at The House Of Blues in Los Angelos California and when I say before I mean BARELY days before the Oulu, Finland spectacular was due to take place. The compeition was outstanding and you felt every minutely lower score was unjustified. In the event you were not there to enjoy it in person or you just want to relive it again, here is our own Finger Lickin' Good representing for the Northwest.
Every year a day or two before the US Air Guitar Nationals is set to take place there is another chance for hopefuls that did not quite make it into that setting by actually winning or placing appropriately in a semi-final. An invite only competition, the contestants are given the top-secret location just a day or two away from said event. This year it was set in a hole in the wall in an actual hole in the wall, the stage a postage stamp on cinder block (well, not literally but it was pretty small). The back room of Bar 107 was packed like a can of sardines and there was a groper afoot. The judges were gazing down onto the stage from balcony seats like roman emperors at The Coliseum. If you claimed your place and if you didn't ever leave said place you enjoyed a fun show. For those of us who had to go to the bathroom, well... Tough luck. Thankfully there were some good samaritans who took video and we can at least show you our two NW representatives "Sahexy" and "Kara Picante" who did proceed to The Nationals but only as gleeful supporters... This year.
There are so many reasons to love the internet, getting directions, getting information, getting even.... We stumbled across this old 1990 video of Mean Melin instructing the world on the finer points of air guitar. Considering it only took him 23 years to get to this point you may want to take notes!
Yes! Eric "Mean" Melin of the USA did win the World Air Guitar competition this year in Oulu, Finland but the USA also came in second with another amazing performance from Doug "The Thunder" Stroock.

If you have ever wondered HOW air guitarists prepare for a competition here is the answer to that burning question. This particular video was shown at the USAG Western Semifinals on Saturday August 3rd at The Independent in San Francisco, California where local favorite Cold Steel Renegade took first place. Our own Finger Lickin' Good took 4th which gets him into the National competition being held in L.A. at The House of Blues in two weeks. Our other representatives of the Pacific NW: Tony Tapatio, Whalin Big Air, Um & Kara Picante all did awesome and we are proud of our representatives.
